Moving Tips for a Simpler Moving Experience

On a score of one to ten, most people would rank moving somewhere near the very bottom. It is not something that people enjoy having to undertake and it can, to say the least, be a very stressful experience to tackle. One of the most important steps to a successful, and stress-free move is to hire a pro to handle everything for you. That way, you can sit back and relax while someone else handles the tough stuff for you.

You also need to make sure you grab enough boxed before you even begin to pack your home or office. It never fails, when people go ahead and start to pack everything, chances are they discover they didn’t get enough boxes to get everything packed safely. Boxes can be purchased through a moving company, but you can also find plenty of free options as well. Grocery stores, liquor stores and retail stores are all great places to swing by and grab boxes for a move. If you call ahead, store managers may even be able to hold the best boxes for you to pick up at a convenient time.

Be sure to downsize before you start packing. It makes no sense to unpack a closet filled with clothing you never wear or junk you have not seen in a year. As a rule of thumb, if it doesn’t fit or you have not worn it or used it in a year, get rid of it. There are plenty of easy options for downsizing including donating to a charity, having a yard sale, giving to friends or family or simply tossing into the trash. Be sure to tackle every room in the house to make sure everything is downsized before the move. When you take time to downsize, you can rest assured that your move will be much easier and will take less time to get things unpacked and situated at the new location.

When packing boxes, be sure to label each one as you load it up. This will cut down on time when you get to the new house. When you know which room to place the boxes in, you can get things taken care of fast.

Before moving day, plan to board your pets if it’s a local move or have them taken care of by a friend or family member so they will be safe and won’t be able to run out a door while the moving team is loading or unloading your house. It’s also a good idea to have the kids in school or daycare or at least have them occupied with something entertaining while things are being moved.
